The beautiful desert houses and garden are a part of my Ancient Thebes city, but I'm posting them in sections since the entire city is more than 4 million blocks. These two homes were built for city officials and they over look a public garden in full bloom. If you are building the city, I placed a glowstone on the ground to show where to stand when placing this section by the blue house with the columns. So to place this import stand with your back toward the city wall and count in 25 blocks from your right fortress wall and 14 blocks in from the gate fortress wall. This import is rectangular shaped and you will be standing in the center of the small end of the rectangle when you place it--for reference. Just message me if you have any questions.

Your right. The real trick is to create interesting lines but keep the scale accurate. So that from the perspective of the person walking through the build, that person finds it believable or can suspend their belief enough to enjoy the experience. Many builders apply too much "cake" (a word from Grian) And speaking of Grian, the 8 stables are his design and block choice. I actually added to it! I think he forgot about the desert sun. Sometimes as builders we get heavily focused on details and forget that people experience things by impression. I think Ahmed created an amazing representation of Thebes in the Mummy Returns. He probably remembered how fond the ancients were of flat smooth surfaces. I looked on Google Images for examples of Ancient Egyptian homes and found that Ahmed was right about flat plain walls. For example, as you probably already know from reading history books, the ancient pyramid builders had the blocks so flush that a human hair would not fit in the seams between blocks. It was a testimony to their building and carving skill. 5,000 years ago they did have limited building supplies and did amazing things with supplies around them.. For intricate "cake" the building of Parliament would really call for a heavy dose of blocks variation!

Nice, Nice. I would like to see you mixing up a little with blocks available.

I agree more color would be nice. I guess Ahmed Abounouom, the Art Director of the Mummy Returns, used a more traditional color palette. But one of the great things about Minecraft is that people can change the blocks to their choosing.

I was not thinking so much about more colors which always helps to get more likes here but more about that the Egyptian had a lot of different building materials and mixtures. hehe anyway hard to replicate this kind of details in mc.
