Elisabeth Hospital is one of the Oldest existing buildings in Kassel, Germany.
It was first mentioned in 1297 as a Almshouse. It was used especially as a Plague house as this building back then was still located outside the city walls, and therefore outside the center. 1587 it was Demolished and rebuilt due to dilapidation.
During the unnecessary English air raids on Kassel it was destroyed, however it was Rebuilt in 1958 although in Simpler style.
This makes it the only Surviving historic building on the Street Oberste Gasse. All the others with no Exception were wiped out in the firestorm.
It is located on: Oberste Gasse/Steinstraße. Near to it is the Zwehrener Turm.
Right next to it is the large Stone house Oberste Gasse 15.
