Emyn Beraid, also known as the Tower Hills, were a series of steep hills that formed the border between the elven kingdom of Lindon and the men kingdom of Arnor.
In ancient times, the Lord of the High Elves Gil-Galad built three snow-white towers on the hilltops, in the highest of which, Elostirion, the palantir of Elendil was kept. It was the only palantir that could only look to the West.
Elendil-stone was once one of Arnor's treasures, but many centuries have passed since the kingdom of the north fell. Now the elves of Lindon that still inhabit the Grey Havens guard the palantir rescued from buried under the waters of Belegaer Numenor.
