Level 46 : Master Geek

This project is now closed.

I started building Erebor a while back, but with an entirely different interior. The old interior wasn't working well, there were some problems with the initial shapes (one-off blocks, etc), so I migrated the old gate over to a new map and started over on the interior.

The new map has a much better plan, and will have much more detail in regard to engineering the spaces and functional parts of the kingdom.

The gate is similar to what you see in the movie, with a few more embellishments, and the buildings on the interior are products of my imagination and inspiration from concept art and real-world architecture.

Sadly, I was unable to completely finish the main hall before the movie came out. At this point in time I'm working on creating some of the living spaces for shopkeepers whose stores are close to the entrance. I'm also adding some walkways to make it easier, and more obvious, to access some of the taller structures.

It's a massive work in progress, and I'm trying to keep a video log of the major additions that are made (see below). Depending on how the interior of Erebor goes, I might start working on Dale fairly soon. It's nice to see some sunlight now and again.

Don't forget to check the update logs!

Leave a diamond if you like it ;)

Update #19 - Final Update : 12/09/2015 11:25:49 amDec 9th, 2015

Hey everyone!

The past year has been awesome. I've learned so much about dwarven lore, and developed something of an eye for architecture. You all have been so supportive, and I can't begin to express my gratitude.

It's become clear that I won't be able to finish this project, so it's only fitting that I give it to you.

I sincerely hope that someone can do something beautiful with it. Keep digging, y'all.

NO! Just NO! Scrolling through this weeks post I was happy to see you were posting an update - but then all this disappointment! :(

It's really a pitty you're not going to continue. It was extremely entertaining to follow your posts and see this project grow through pics and timelapses. Over time this really became one of my favorite projects.

Hopefully you're not completely done with MC and we will see other projects of you.

FOV - you rock man, I loved reading all of your inspiring comments. Hearing that someone enjoyed this really makes the time investment worth while. Maybe I'll pick up some other projects, but for now I'll be laying low. Make some room for new talent ;)

Howdy Yat

Probably not, school's taking up a lot of my time right now, and I have a lot of IRL projects that I need to get finished ;)
I have an idea, would you allow me to paste your erebor into my mountain, then finish it myself?

It's sad to see that you feel that you won't be able to complete this project, but I understand how that happens sometimes. The work you have done has been incredible. Who knows maybe some day down the road the flames within will rekindle and you'll return to this project? At least you'll have it here as a testament of your work, effort and artistry. :)

Yeah ^_^ I do think that is one of the bonuses of posting our projects here on PMC. We are later able to take walks down memory lane. See our progress - our fumbles and our feats. I think it's a wonderful thing really and I'm glad we have such places like PMC to do that. :)
It's been a year already bruh

I really love your statues. The huge one behind the throne and the panel behind it look ingenious. And the long line of oversized warriors beside the way to the throne probably frighten even the bravest visitor of your dwarven king. Excellent job.

I see you added a new river and waterfall, NICE :3 What program are you using for making the terrain?
Thanks :) I use Vixelsniper and workd edit to make the terrain. Mostly voxel's melt tools after putting down the general shape.

Oh yes, the whole project has taken nearly a year. The gate itself took about four days for the main pieces, but some parts of it have been changed as time's gone on.

And thank you :)
