The F/A-6 "Meteor" has been the most iconic plane in the Legion Navy and the Legion Marines for years.
The Infantry and the Marines describes "It hits just like meteor strike" and the Meteor became the F/A-6's nickname
Classified as Multirole aircraft, the F/A-6 is armed with a dual rotary cannons In the front, 5 GPBs (General Purpose Bombs) under each wing and 2 under the craft's body. It is operated by 2, one pilot that pilots the craft and is in charge of air-to-air combat, and a co-pilot that is in charge of the ground attack.
The Meteor is capable of being launched from an aircraft carrier, which makes the F/A-6 very popular in the Navy. It is also the most used aircraft for CAS (Close Air Support) for having the ability to strike ground targets effectively, and protect itself from aerial threats at the same time, rather than having escorts.
Most of the problems that occured during combat is that the GPB's pylons tend to malfunction quite often. The bombs that are armed often fails to get released and remains to the hardpoint. This usually ends with a wing missing (both wings in some cases), forcing both pilots to bail or crashland the plane.
This problem was resolved some time later with the F/A-6A.
The F/A-6A is equipped with improved hardpoints which drastically reduced the chances of the hardpoint malfunctioning. The cost of this however, is that one GPB pylon in each wing is removed, decreasing the overall firepower. Almost all pilots agree that this is a fair trade, and would rather fly safely than risk losing wing or two for slightly more firepower
