AU Profile - Named after Yaroslav I, Grand Prince of Rus (also known as Yaroslav the Wise), the battlecruisers of the Velikiy Knyaz Yaroslav-class were designed as the core of a mobile force to supplement the heavy units of the Imperial Russian Navy. The conservative Navy establishment was loathe to risk sending its heaviest units too far from the major naval bases of the empire, and thus the 'Yaroslav's became the workhorses of the fleet - the fast and heavily-armed vessels capable of taking on the classic battlecruiser role of killing anything faster than it, and running away from anything that could destroy it in turn.
