Together with a friend of mine named sidney, I built this insane 9x9 flush & seamless door!
We actually made the redstone quite compact, as you might be able to tell :)

World Download Below, Make sure to use 14w11b or higher, because for whatever reason snapshot worlds break in 1.7.

Is there some kind of formula you guys can follow for those piston extenders that seems to float in the air when it opens? It just seems like having to mess with all those block updates would just screw with my mind, especially finding a way to store them.

well its just plain thinking of how to make it work really, but theres no storage at the top so that makes it a whole lot easier :) we actually just powered 2 circuits at different times really, theres a triple extender which actually makes the piston which it retracts, retracts its block if powered for 4 ticks (so not if input is shorter) and theres a very simple circuit which makes the entire extender at the top retract. (just a repeater track spiraling down)
then we have an input running accross the back which causes an update to the pistons within the door by pushing a column of blocks up and down :)

Ah, that's actually pretty cool :) I never would have thought of that, especially the column of blocks for the updates.
