Entirely a vanilla Minecraft datapack.
This datapack enables composting in order to create new dirt in vanilla survival Minecraft. Why would you want to do that? It was a special request for a challenging map a friend is making.
Dropping any sapling on top of any EMPTY chest will turn that chest into a composting chest.
Storing saplings in the composter in groups of eight will, with time, compost that plant matter into fertile soil!
You can store other things in your composting box, but only those saplings that are specifically in groups of eight will activate the composting. What happens if you don't do that? Well, just like with a real composter, if you don't tend to it properly, it won't compost as efficiently, if at all.
Just like with a real-world composter, the more organic material (i.e. more groups of eight saplings) you place into the composter, and the greater the variety of organic material (i.e. the more types of composting saplings), the faster the composter works.
It's not so flashy looking.... because it's just a smelly composting box. So I went with a simple chest with a mycelium-looking interior, which displays particles when it's actively composting. A sign posts on its side to help differentiate it from standard chests.

I dropped a Sappling on top of a chest and nothing really happens, even though /function does show some "gatinho" parameters that probably belong to this datapack.

Such a shame, I was honestly looking forward to this one :'( ...
Will you be updating it when the stable releases of 1.14 start to roll out?
Hi. I tested. It seems that only at the first time making a Composter (throwing a Sapling on top of it) that the Sign appears. Other times it generates the Composter only without a Sign, yet it's functional.
I guess it could be more than a source of regular dirt. Maybe Mushrooms and other types of dirt. Some kind of Gem would be good to. Different items with different weights for replacing the 8 Saplings in the container.
Also, I prefer to reduce the 8 Saplings for less, and I found really easy to change that in the code.

If the sign doesn’t apoear, it’s likely there was something next to the chest, like talk grass or whatever. The sign won’t replace another block except air.
