The German Reichstag is a building located in Mitterrand, Berlin, Germany. From 1894 to 1918, it was first the Imperial Parliament of the German Empire, and later it was the seat of the Parliament of the Republic during the Weimar Republic. It was destroyed by fire in 1933. Located in West Berlin after World War II and abandoned, East Germany built another Republic Palace in East Berlin to hold the People's Assembly, while West Germany held the Bundestag in Bonn with the Bundestag. In 1960s, the building was partially renovated, when Germany was reunified, and it was rebuilt according to the plan of architect norman foster. Since 1994, the German Federal Assembly has elected the German Federal President here every five years. It has been the site of the German Bundestag since 1999.
