The Virgen de la Covadonga, also known as Covadonga, was a schooner built in Spain and dumped in 1859. During the Spanish-South American War (1863-1866), it was captured by Chilean forces at the end of Papudo's naval action and incorporated into the Chilean Navy. After being assigned to exploration missions, it was later assigned to the Chilean squad that participated in the Pacific War (1879-1883). It was sunk on September 13, 1880, after exploding during an attack off the Peruvian coast of Chancay, in which his commander and 31 crew members died.
