This is a side project I completed a couple of months ago after a visit to Finland. This particular metro station is based on Matinkylä/Mattby.

As is normal in Finland, all signage is in both Finnish and Swedish. I tried my best to use the head database to find appropriate icons for signs and directions. The biggest challenge of this build was making a "room" (which is already excessive in size in real life) look full enough and not seem empty. As this was just a side project on a train showcase plot, I made the above surface entrances fairly generic and small, although several features were inspired from actual Helsinki metro buildings. In real life the main entrance/exit to Matinkylä/Mattby station is located inside a major shopping mall.

I made two of the three different types of train operating on the Helsinki metro network. As well as inside the station, they can also be seen above ground as part of my train showcase plot, allowing for a better view. A serious difficulty I had with these trains was getting the scaling right in relation to my other train builds. The track gauge used in Finland is slightly wider than the European standard, so the trains are visibly wider in real life. Despite my best efforts the scale is probably not 100% accurate compared to the other trains I've built, and the two metro trains are not to a perfect scale with each other, but I opted for practicality on how they looked in minecraft rather than complete accuracy overall. Another issue I had was the red/orange colour of these trains in real life. Depending on the light, the trains can look to be a different colour. I had a debate with my s.o. (who lives in Helsinki) over the colour and she said orange looked more accurate, whereas I thought the red looked better. Although I featured red trains in the station build, I made an orange varient above ground as part of my train showcase.

For train nerds, the two train types I made were:
HKL Class M100
HKL Class M300

You can access this build on CosmicX (formerly known as Paradise Network). Select the Creative Plots world and use the command /p visit Gorantaylis. The build will be a couple hundred of blocks directly ahead of you when it spawns you in and the cube shaped entrance buildings should be easy to spot. If I am able to get a schematic of this build from the server I will add it on here at a later date.

About the Helsinki metro:

The Helsinki metro is the world's northernmost metro system. It is operated by HKL (Helsinki City Transport) on behalf of HRT (Helsinki Regional Transport Authority). It first opened in 1982 and runs (generally speaking) east to west both above and under Helsinki and its suburbs. In 2017 the line was extended to Matinkylä/Mattby and then further to Kivenlahti/Stensvik in 2022. In total the network has 2 lines and 30 stations and forms a 'Y' shape.

The Class M100 trains have been in use since the line first opened and have been modernised since. The Class M200 trains were introduce in 2000 with the newest train, the Class M300, being introduced in 2016.
