THE HMS QUEEN MARY
It's midnight on Halloween night. Rain is falling on the rooftops of Los Angeles. An incident in the old boat Queen Mary, which has been rehabilitated into a hotel, has been detected. Apparently, a huge octopus devastates and eats the boat from the inside. Some even speak of the incarnation of the Kraken. In view of the size of the monster, the army was deployed to annihilate this threat.
The outcome of the battle is uncertain, but one thing is sure: Halloween night is not going to be a restful one.
It all started with a Halloween-themed Build contest, with relatively simple rules:
-No WorldEdit allowed, no Voxel allowed (no plug-ins at all)
-Teams of 10 players + 2 substitutes
-4 days to build the randomly drawn theme, and connect it to the Halloween theme.
We were lucky (or rather unlucky) to come across the only boat of the proposed themes, the HMS Queen Mary. To add this terrific Halloween dimension, we decided to introduce the Kraken destroying the boat from all sides. On the land, the zone has become militarized, tents, tanks, helicopters and umvees are preparing to take action. The Zone is also decorated for Halloween.
We have chosen to represent reality as faithfully as possible: every bench exists in real life, every garbage can, every shrubh as been reproduced identically in the game, using the plans of the boat (315 blocks long), the plans of the nearby shopping mall and the adjacent dome.
We also wanted to embody through this boat the spirit of Halloween, with very mechanical, dark tones and corridors worthy of the movie Shining. The boat then contains most of the important parts: The swimming pool, 3 floors of rooms, 4 restaurants, a museum, a chapel, many stores, an alley for officers, the control room, a kiosk, the engine room, three decks to reach the boat, 8 decks that cross the boat from all sides, 3 chimneys, a large showroom, the Verandah Grill, and, above all, the Kraken, having taken possession of the boat from all sides through the showroom.
Outside, a shopping center was built and then revisited not only for Halloween but also as a refuge for the army. A large fountain illuminates the square, and in the background, a port area has been arranged, as well as a large dome (present of course in real life), then a dike along the boat, and finally a large beach.
We built on a modded launcher (more than forty mods), which allowed us to best represent the decorations we wanted to represent.
I hope you will appreciate our vision of the HMS Queen Mary revisited in a Halloween/Horror movie style, built in 4 days non-stop by our team.
