Ladies and gentlemen, today I present to you my entry to the Desert Detour Contest here on PMC. I have spent the last three weeks working on this, and I hope you enjoy!
And, yes, this is exactly why there has been no Week in Review the past two weeks. Minecraft is hard work, as you well know. xD
Project Overview
This project is . . . well . . . weird. Yes, weird is the correct word to use. The scope of Home Sweet Home is three-fold. The build itself consists of a high-tech drilling platform and a UFO, the lore is over 4000 words in length and spans three chapters, and there is also an interactive element to the map.
I was inspired by the video game Portal, of which I'm sure many of you are intimately familiar. Other than that, this idea is pretty much a result of the insane chaotic maelstrom that is my mind.
The Build
As I said before, this project is weird. It consists of a mixture of structural and organic components. The bottom portion is a drilling platform, connected to a sea of fusion batteries through a series of twisting tubes. The upper portion is a UFO, absorbing the geothermal energy emitted through the drill. Here's a rotating GIF that was made by my good friend Eelitt.
I started this process with the drill. I was really keen to try out some of the new materials that were released in the 1.9 update, so you'll notice a lot of bright purple here and there. I then worked my way out and built the monoliths, the arches, and the support structures. Then I made some custom tubes that I smoothed and colored by hand. After ironing out the details, I built the UFO and the interior work. Here's a GIF that I made that illustrates this process.
The Lore
The Adventure
In order to start your adventure (which runs in tandem with Chapter III of the Lore), download the world save and simply enter the command /tp 66 163 58. You can stay in Creative Mode if you like; it's not going to help you very much anyway. Here's some screenshots of what you'll find on the interior of the UFO.
That pretty much wraps it up. I have to say, I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, and I'm looking forward to hear what you guys think of it. Thank you very much for stopping by! If it pleases, do be sure to leave a diamond on your way out, and don't forget to check out the other contest entries as well. There's some really amazing stuff out there. Till next time!

I've found your new project
Home Sweet Home
. It's really a nice job. Therefore I'm here to ask if I could repost your project to our website MCBBS:www.mcbbs.net/forum.php.
However, due to the fact that our country has blocked a lot of foreign websites.
So could you allow us create a new Chinese downlink.
I will list your name and the original website clearly.
(Diamond for you :D)
Looks cool though!
