Hello everyone,
I'm back again with another ship for you. This time its Hr.Ms. De Ruyter of the Royal Netherlands Navy. A one-off light cruiser commissioned in 1936, she fought in a couple of notable battles during the Second World War before she was sunk in the Battle of Java Sea in 1942 by the Japanese Myoko-class heavy cruiser Haguro. Her commanding officer who was overseeing the battle from De Ruyter as his flagship, Schout-bij-Nacht (Rear Admiral or Counter Admiral) Karel Doorman was killed as he elected to go down with his ship. This vessel was the most powerful cruiser in the Royal Netherlands Navy at the time of her commissioning and I thought it would be fun to build another light cruiser, my second largest warship to date in terms of length, and my first ever Dutch warship.
I used the World of Warships model to build her, however, I am aware of the many problems with the Dutch cruiser models in the game so I did some research beforehand and tweaked or removed any elements that were incorrect onboard the vessel. There weren't too many but the most noticeable was that her in-game depiction features only half of her actual anti-aircraft armament (for some reason) so that had to be rectified. I also used a reference image for her camouflage, which is the camouflage she was wearing in 1942 when she was sunk.
The aircraft you see onboard are two Fokker C.XI-W reconnaissance seaplanes she was equipped with and they are my own design, my first attempt at an aircraft. I think they turned out pretty okay since 1:1 scale planes are very hard to make.
The armament for this ship is as follows:
6 x 149mm/50 Bofors Mark 9 Guns [3 x 2], 1 x 149mm/50 Bofors Mark 10 Gun [1 x 1]
10 x 40mm/56 Bofors No. 3 Guns [5 x 2]
8 x 12.7mm/90 M2 Browning Heavy Machine Guns [4 x 2]
2 x Depth Charge Rails
1 x Catapult, 2 x Fokker C.XI-W Seaplanes

Changed all the images for two reasons:
1) The starboard-side crane had a semi-duplicate version of itself underneath, very visible in the images which was a carryover from my copy-and-paste job. This was a glaring error and I have removed the offending blocks.
2) The benches on the foredeck were pressure plates instead of my revised slab/sign combination and have also been rectified. I'd changed my mind about the design halfway through the construction and never updated the front again.

I liked your ship
Thanks for the kind words about my ship and also thanks for your interest in signing me up for your build team, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to decline your offer, as much as I do appreciate it. I'm sorry.

As for my favourite WWI ship, that isn't easy, but it's a great question. I've only built one WWI ship so far, which was the St. Louis class, which was outdated by the time of the war. I like that ship but it's probably not my favourite of the war. I think I'll list a few of my favourites, I'm not sure I can reduce it down to one, there are too many good ones!
HMS Warspite has to be up there, although I prefer her appearance from the WWII era.
The Sevastopol (Gangut)-class is also a strong contender, and similarly the Dante Alighieri.
The Tegetthoff-class battleships are another ship I like.
And I can't say no to one or two of the British and German battlecruisers of the period, too many good ones to pick one out, though :D
For cruisers, I'd say the Bogatyr-class protected cruisers are one of my favourites. I love the look of that period of protected/armoured cruisers and particularly those ships. Also, I love the massive British armoured cruisers from the pre-war period, such as the Minotaur and the Warrior classes.
As for destroyers, it's hard to pick anything out, I tend to prefer WWII destroyers mostly but I quite like some of the American designs, as well as the Italian ones.
Hope that answers your question, somewhat anyway :D I've probably forgotten something I really like so I'm sure the list would change if you asked me again in a year's time lol.
