The Ilyushin Il-76 is a Soviet/Russian cargo aircraft introduced in 1974. It is currently in use in both the military and civilian sector with operators such as the Ukrainian and Russian Air Forces and Aeroflot (formerly) & Air Koryo. It was designed to deliver heavy machinery to remote areas and is able to land and take off from unpaved runways. Thanks to this ability, the Il-76 is used for many roles such as humanitarian aid, disaster control, combat operations, aerial firefighting and refuelling. Special versions of the Il-76 are used for zero-G training, AEW&C and as a command centre. The Russian Air Force operates at least one "Doomsday Il-76" and two were converted to test airborne lasers, but information about this project is still classified.

Actually, there's a movie, Die Another Day (it's a James Bond film) that has a sort of mix between the Antonov AN-124 and the Il-76. Basically, it resembled the 124 on the outside, but had the Il-76's glass navigator's station in the nose. Pretty cool, huh?
