This is my 1:1 scale speculative reconstruction of ancient Alexandrias main hippodrome the lageion as it may have appeared in 297 A.D. I decided that instead of using the circus maximus clone that reconstructions of this building show i would make something that looks alot more greek, but with the roman addition of the spina in the middle. Since nobody really knows what the building looks like with only the foundations ever being found i decided to blend the style of the ac origins hippodrome concept art with what is known about the building.In real life this would have been attached directly to the serapeion but as of this posting i havent gotten around to doing the landscaping for it.

some history

not much is known about the lageion besides it was named after the ancestor of the Ptolemaic kings lagus, and the hippodrome was thought to be round on both ends before the romans decided to split the hippodrome so the back portion could be a theater and the rest could be converted more into a proper circus for chariot racing. what we know of the lageions size was discovered during napoleons expeditions of the area in 1798-1801.

-unlike my hippodrome of constantinople this one is intended to be a traditional greek hippodrome thats built into the side of a valley where people can just climb over the top so it doesnt have the roman internal structure to it
