But if you want them to get the full experience with you, starting over from the beginning is a good idea!
Once the game is started, the circuit is already adjusted for single or multiplayer, it can't be changed, it just makes a few small adjustments.

Admittedly we did cheat a bit in creative, mostly for the parkour parts as he isn't that skilled. But there was one part we couldn't figure out: the lava parkour in the 4th corridor. We found how to turn off the lava but could not find how to open the door at the end.
Also, a few bugs that aren't bad. While in the maze in the mini jungle temples we had to log out for irl stuff. When logging back in, we got the "complete" message and were teleported to the over world, but my son got teleported to the command blocks. Not sure how were were supposed to complete the maze. I just teleported him back to my location.
Also, if we both died in a relatively close time one of us was stuck in the respawn room since the trip wire was triggered by the other.
One last thing, the "special items" such as the leather forrest armor and sword were a single set, so we had to divy it out between us. Not a deal breaker, but something to note.
Other than what I mentioned we really enjoyed ourselves. My son was so happy when we beat the boss (he was scared it would be a wither) and got the "you won!" message. We didn't find all the secrets so maybe we will attempt it again.

- The hint to follow the path to the village didn't make sense because the path disappears and so it doesn't really lead to the village. This made it really hard to start the game.
- For the life of me, I could not figure out the jungle temple maze challenge near the starting location. In fact, I eventually had to just cheat and fly over the fence in creative mode. I'd very much like to know how I was supposed to do that challenge.
