Hey there folks!
After a seven (!) weeks break, I am finally able to show you the sixth Medival Mondays build! I'm sorry for my recent inactivity, caused by not only me having been terribly busy in real life, but also by me continuously losing interest in Minecraft - I haven't stopped playing, I just don't play the game as much as I used to anymore. As a matter of fact: Have a look at what I'm currently building!

Have a look at the other buildings of the series if you're interested: http://www.planetminecraft.com/collection/7293/medieval-mondays/

Planned builds for the series:

- Large house
- Normal house
- Small house
- Church
- Castle
- Town hall
- Marketplace
- Training area
- Windmill
- Forge
- Watchtower / Clocktower
- Graveyard
- Gate
- Town walls
- Library
- Stables
Progress100% complete

Finally fixed the schematic file, it should now contain the whole build! Sorry for the long wait...
I've also changed one or the other thing on the castle itself.

A new Medieval Mondays build will be released next monday, stay tuned! Cheers.

I am building an MMO RPG and need designs for the world so that I don't have to spend many extra hours building and designing things myself. I would like to ask your permission to possibly use a few of your builds in that world. I would probably give you a sign or something noticeable for recognition with a link to your media. And I am also going to make a book in the world with all of the names of the different designers as well as the links to their media. I have skype and fb if you are interested in seeing what I have so far or want more info. Anyway. Peace dude. ;) Awesome build. :D I like the way the towers are structured.

Oh glad to hear that!
The first render looks good as always but I think this is not your best medieval building,  I like the others much more, for a castle it's not enough in my oppinion but still I like your work :-)

Hey,

I just went to use the schematic and realized the bottom half of the castle is cut off. You can see it in the schematic view. everything below the webs holding the drawbridge is gone:(

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll try to fix this as soon as I can!
right when i need some castle inspiration this motherfucker comes around with a smile on his face. Gj m8, I like how it is much smaller than most people's castle.

Hehe thanks dude! Make sure to show me your final project of that castle ;)
I was supposed to build it for a server, but an ADMIN griefed me. It's the owners fault u know, he trusts people way too quickly to become staff and never keeps an eye out for his server. I might start over in SP, but idk. If i do I'll be sure to get some inspiration from this again. :)

I'm sorry to say this build is 100% medieval. Of course it's not 100%
realistic, because realistic style in minecraft is boring and it's often
an excuse to build flat and rush things. But the build does look
medieval, it fits perfectly in the period, the use of wood and stone,
the "yard" in the middle, this is perfectly medieval. Please tell me it
looks renaissance themed, or fantasy, so i could spend a good time
laughing.

Medieval is like baroque, its more a period of the history than an architectural style ( and its a huge period ). European medieval is not the same the chinese medieval : you can actually use the word medieval for a lot of different stuff.
So please, do not create a polemic for nothing, you'll just make the builder upset and he did a great work here he doesnt deserve this ...

See this is where the misconceptions about the medieval style in Minecraft begin; obviously in real life, back in the middleage, people would not spend so much time and effort to build beautiful and fancy looking castles - they needed to be safe and efficient. In Minecraft however most builders don't follow these rules, they want to create something that pleases the eye. If one was to recreate an accurate and exact replica of a medieval castle as they are found in real life, the builder would have to leave out a lot of details, make all the walls plain and - in a builder's perspective - boring and bad.
So this buiding shows the way I myself interpret the medieval style in Minecraft. Another factor I haven't mentioned yet - the most important one actually - is fun. It's extremely fun for me to build these buildings in this style. Maybe one day I'll build a "realistic" medieval castle, but not in this series.

Actually, they DID spend a whole lot of effort into making their buildings beautiful. You can see that in the most extreme with gothic cathedrals. But often their idea of "beautiful" is something like "plastered plain white", with the accents only coming from the requirements of the building itself, like timber frames, or cornerstones.

I agree this can be a bit less exciting, but then, why not just label it "fantasy", instead of claiming "medieval" which it clearly is not?

Here's a replica of an actual medieval castle btw: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/epic-realistic-medieval-castle/ Mine is a bit later, but also medieval: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/chateau-vufflens/
I actually have troubles finding more examples, because all the fantasy-castles are labeled or tagged "medieval"...

Ye I agree, but as I said in Minecraft the medieval style is interpreted a bit different than it is in real life (because of several aspects such as fun, creativity, look etc) - and by the way, your point with gothic cathedrals doesn't seem very valid to me since gothic buildings are obviously not medieval buidlings ;)

"Gothic not medieval"? Please explain why this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_de_Paris was built between 1163 and 1345 (smack in the high middle ages) or what your definition of either a) gothic or b) middle ages is.

I'm no professional, but I would say the Notre Dame cathedral is a perfect example for gothic architecture - judging not by the year it was built in but by its style. Obviously its hard to split every build style in epoches (it's very dependent on the place also).

Oh, now I see where this is coming from. You might think this is gothic? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk It's not. It's neo-gothic. Victorian. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_Revival_architecture All the other gothic styles (early, high, late) are exclusively medieval, 12th to 15th century.

Hey, let's just lower your aggressiveness level by a solid 50% and very briefly talk about the essence of what you pointed out in your very first comment, obviously I'm no expert and yes I would have classified the first link as a gothic building which probably makes me a profoundly stupid being - HOWEVER in Minecraft, when people talk about the style gothic, they put all these neo- and early styles together - their objective is that if one looks at the build he would say "hey cool it's gothic!". Styles in Minecraft are very apparently 100% appearance-based. And of course you are totally correct that in the Middle Age people built gothic cathedrals, but in Minecraft the style medieval has its own definiton.

Apparently "medieval" really has it's own definiton here. I'd call it "fantasy", which is what it really is.

But don't get me wrong, I _do_ like fantasy (and also play a lot of fantasy games, like Skyrim and such), and I actually like your builds.

I just don't like it when people think fantasy constructs might be "medieval" in any way (and not only constructs; as a reenactor for museums for the late middle ages, I'm trying to educate people to NOT confuse fantasy with the historical reality, so that's why I'm a bit sensible on the topic).

I fully understand your position. Though I think in fantasy based games or movies (Skyrim, LotR), you can clearly see the the medieval origin / inspiration in the builds.
