See Update log for details

This project is my personal version of the Mines of Moria and is inspired by the original Godcraft server project. For more details on all of that, read the Start entry in the update log. The word chunk, when used in the log does not refer to the 16x16 chunks in Minecraft, but rather, it refers to a section of my project (a tile really) that is 25x25, 15x15, or some combination thereof, with the larger ones being empty floor, and the smaller ones being the columns. The project currently has semi-consistent help from Vashti, my fiance, MagicBULLET, my brother, and sometimes Hibbsi. Currently, there is no video for this project, though I may make one later when the project is more complete. There are several other projects that are located on the same server, though they are all simply started, and are awaiting the completion of this one.

As a note, this project is not designed to be accurate to the Lord of the Rings lore that it draws its name from, but is more designed to capture the feel of the massive columns and scale seen in the movie and artwork, with inspiration taken from my own thoughts. The server is open on a whitelist basis and the map will not be made available for download. Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments for this project and remember to watch the update log for the latest changes.

Additional Notes

Updated 9/28/2011:

Using Bukkit v935with Worldedit 4.6 for superpickaxe command in the excavation. All materials are gathered and forged, not given.

The remaining 20% of the project was completed with MCedit as the world that the project was created in is being retired.

Texture pack is Zar's Awesome Pack or the default textures.

Server is online and whitelisted. Check the link for more information. Posting whitelist requests here will result in me banning you on my server. Currently the whitelist is open for new applications.

28 Update Logs

Completion : 09/28/2011 3:58:24 pmSep 28th, 2011

Moria is finished. I have completed the main hall with the help of MCedit for the last ~20% of the excavation, as well as moving torch holders that I discovered were not placed straight. The current schematic is only the main room with the columns and does not include the grand hall, tunnel, or ESC. Those will be added at a later time and included in a super schematic. With the current schematic, since it is a straight rectangular box, you will be able to import it directly. When the final version is released, it will be trimmed to exact size and will be filled with wool instead of air so that you can place it into a mountain without any problems. There is a single north facing torch missing from the file, if you find it, please let me know where it is in relation to the staircase so that I may correct the problem. If you notice any torch holders on the roof that are not lined up properly, please let me know that as well. As my server world is going to be regenerated, I have changed my mind about providing a schematic for this build, since it will no longer be available for some time on my server.

Ya, this was made after seeing the videos that they had before they did their first server reset. I have seen one of the other Moria builds they did more recently and it was also insane. Brain dies at the thought of rebuilding this again, since it was done without enchanting being available, but there was a fair bit of console commands near the end.

I've seen countless things in Minecraft. I've seen some literally jaw-dropping creations to things that shouldn't even be called art. Even though this build is very simple, there is just something about the Mines of Moria that just gets the adrenaline going, so bravo, you made me happy with this build ;)

This was made before true creative was a thing. There was flying and instabreak for some of it, but there was much hand-carving as well.

This was made long ago. I kinda want to have another large underground structure like this again, but it would take some time to make. I should probably post some projects for the stuff that I have worked on on the official server.
Well I'm working on a massive project so I don't care about the size. Just means more work :) I needed an area for the dwarven race to live and this looked good for the job :) thanks anway :)

Where exactly are you building this? Is this a server or is there some other location?
I'm making a map by myself and needed some buildings. I'm adding the custom npc mod to the map so I'll program all the npcs to make a elder scrolls like adventure. :)

The schematic is from an ancient version of the game, and this would probably not look good in an adventure map because of the size (the room is like 400*250 if I remember correctly). You are certainly welcome to work on your own version at a more reasonable scale though.

once again, that would be no. I will update the schematic soon with better area so that you can import more than just the main room. It will involve replacing all of the air in the project with wool so that you can import the project without air and then replace all of the wool with air to get the space. or you could light it on fire, your choice. I will post an update log when I do this.

Zar's Awesome Server was just brought back online. The world has been wiped clean for the new larger biomes as the old world was a hodgepodge of 6 or 7 generations of terrain algorithms. Some of the projects that were created on the old version of the server will be imported to the new one.

Well, if you would read the description, you would have noticed that it is not directly inspired by the movies, and has no inspiration from the books. It is named because the depiction shown in the movies had a massive hall area with huge pillars. There will be no Balin's tomb or any of that, it is simply a name that pays homage to a massive underground structure that I saw in the movies and heard of a large underground project being named after it that had a similar theme.

That place is huge.... even if the mobs like to horde up around the entrance right near the outside when night falls.... On another note, will you have to expand the storage room before this project is done?

Yes, a major expansion is planned soon because we are about to run out of cobble space. I am trying to decide whether I want to expand back or if I want to make a lower level.

I would guess either way would work, as long as you don't have any underlying redstone wiring that would get interfered with.

So what are you going to do with all the blocks after the area is fully excavated? I mean the mines and the storage area...

And will you make some parts of the mines un-blacklisted for the mobs....? Granted getting ganged up on by 10 or more zombies wouldn't be fun.... or would it?

The chamber will be sealed when the mines are opened to the public. The material will be used for other server projects.

And Moria will remain mob-free, since it spawns so many.

No, I need to find a new plugin or figure out how to disable mobs using WorldGuard and defining a region for the inside of Moria.
