Author's Note:
This is a small "First Generation" Airship that I created for the movecraft plugin. It's a refit of BaccaYarro's Corvette Mk1 from the Airship Pirates series. credit for the original ship thus goes to him. The weapon systems and interior are however all my work.
Feel free to use this in any way you want, wherever you want. If you happen to refit or remake this ship in any way, feel free to do so, and if you decide to upload said modifications, you are of course permitted to do so, as long as éat least minimal credit is provided.
This ship flies using the movecraft plugin, but the redstone devices work without it (Although that may depend on the version.)
Background:
Prior to the so-called War of Aquisition which saw the rise in power of fighter aircraft as a potential revolution in military design, when the Kingdom of Lanier was dominant in airship technologies, the Ships-of-the-Line were the true rulers of the skies, with the infamous Victory-class battleships having earned themselves a well deserved reputation as the most invincible ships to roam the skies. Whilst not particularily practical, they represented the best ship-to-ship combat units available at the time, being unmatched in sheer firepower by any other combat units. After the bombing of fillanel, which was the turn that made airships the center of national militaries and warfare as a whole, such ships were necessary, as battlefields were taken from the lands to the air very quickly.
Taking inspiration on the wildly successful Victory-class, royal navy shipwrights were tasked with designing a new variant to the venerable corvette mk1 warships of the royal navy designed specifically for ship-to-ship combat. Whilst the standard cannon and torpedo corvette models were already very effective, the admiralty appreciated the thought of a disposable force of ships-of-the-line to establish their dominion over the skies without causing each battleship to be a major target - something which saw the victory-class sometimes overwhelmed in battle. As such, the cheapest way to accomplish such a thing was to bring a third corvette model to bear based around the pre-existing models, which would save time and ressources.
What emerged was a low-profile monster. the so called "gun Corvettes" were assigned as sixth rate ships-of-the-Line, and were capable of bearing a total of six cannons, three per side, which is more than half of what a much larger victory-class could bring to bear. these cannons had the same range and firepower as the victory's (and the other royal navy ships) and were highly compact, being easy to mount in significant numbers. these cannons replaced the standard broadside AA mounts, and took up a large portion of the internal space of the vessel. The anti-aircraft defenses were focused forward, with three auto-AA Guns mounted around the bridge in a triangular pattern (based on the original forward defenses patern of the corvette mk1). the addition of those cannons made these corvettes extremely powerful, capable of going toe-to-toe with, ironically, virtually any armored warship of the day, including the likes of the venerable Victory-class, or theoretically, the mighty Shadow of the Deep.
One of the corvette's greatest aspects was it's speed. 'Gun' Corvettes were easily capable of getting into an advantageous position and fire multiple deadly salvos in the most vulnerable areas, whilst being sometimes unreachable themselves. These earned the gun corvettes various nicknames such as "pests" "The fly that just won't die" or the "vicious mosquito". Countless warships were sunken by these fast, replaceable warships in a short span of time. The only major drawback of these corvettes was their durability, or rather, lack of one; so much as a single well placed hit was sometimes enough to be crippling to the tiny vessel, hence why junior crews with the most expertise amongst corvette crews were generally selected to lead these light vessels. most of the time, gun corvettes recieved orders directly from a Behemoth-class Command Ship, which thanks to their good communication arrays could coordinate swarms of these light vessels into position.
Unfortunately for the seemingly revolutionary 'Gun' Corvettes, they appeared at the wrong time; the first models were only completed after the battle of the Argean, where they could otherwise have turned the tide. Whilst they did help in virtually all following royal anti-piracy operations, it was already too late for this venerable, exemplary design to show it's colors on the long term; as the war of aquisition broke out, the Gun Corvettes were terrible ineffective against silver empire fightercraft, although a few innovative commanders were able to send their corvettes close enough to enemy raiders and carriers to damage or even sink them. Nevertheless, after the fate of the ships-of-the-line appeared to be sealed forever, and the victory-class was lost into retirement, the gun corvettes soon followed, being sent for scrap and unfortunately were more or less forgotten by history despite their numerous brave deeds.
