in the 1860s Victorian Railways planned a new workshops to temporarily replace their Williamsontown workshops but nothing happened. 20 years later work started on building Newport workshops based in the middle of the town of Newport, Victoria, Australia. in 1984 it was made official that the workshops would be a permanent workshop that would build steam engines untill the 1950s when deselisation began and and the steam fleet of Victorian railways ether scrapped here or in north bendigo workshops. its current owners are SteamRail Victoria, 707 operations and DERM pav for the westblock area which is still in its orriginal condition. the other sections are owned by Clyde engineering and downer rail. their is also a private tram group that owns a section of one of the workshop areas in the eastern area. this project i built on foxshot.
