Nova Nocturne: A wonderful underground city, suddenly abandoned, with food still on the tables, animals still roaming, machinery still working... Steve has just stumbled upon a great mystery: Where has everyone gone?

Fast forward a few hundred years. It is NV year 298, Nocturne is a thriving city of trade and mining; it has a library, fortress, embassy, towers and an old abandoned shrine. However, strange things are about to happen at Nocturne. In the night a purple mist spreads throughout the city, citizens disappear, goods are stolen, planes come crashing down. The city launches numerous investigations to find out what is the cause of the disaster. Conclusions arrive, the shrine is to blame, but the city is already on the verge of decay, it is already too late. No matter what the city tries, the shrine continues to expectorate strange entities capable of great destruction. Finally, Nocturne gives up. Citizens attempt to run, hide and stake out the disaster, but few make it. The powers of the old ages preserve the city itself, keeping the torches burning and the buildings standing, but all people were not preserved. Nova Nocturne simply disappears.
In an attempt to cover up the incident, the government permanently seals up Nocturne. The tunnels are collapsed, forever locking their secrets in. Transmissions are cut; the media is barred from mentioning it. Curiosity sparks, and word spreads of conspiracy and deception. Over the years, however, Nocturne is forgotten from the public's eye. It merely becomes a legend, a tale spread over campfires and late nights.
Fast forward to the present: You are a simple miner, searching for riches in the earth, mining deeper and deeper, hoping to strike it rich. The map for your area simply reads 'Abandoned. Do not mine.' Perhaps an old mine shaft may present itself? No such luck. You dig deeper and deeper, and break your way into what appears to be an old maintenance tunnel. It is collapsed on both ends, and there are no minerals at all. Out of frustration you bring your pick down on the rock in front of you. The tunnel begins shaking violently, and debris in front of you collapses in on itself. The dust settles...and what do you see? Light streams out of the gaping hole, a city is revealed...Your time has come.

EstatesInc started building specifically for this contest on Dec. 14, after Searful announced that he had intentions of entering our server in the contest. Work continued for a short time individually until the map was moved onto our server where people began working together on the map. Eventually, Pebbles became very involved in the building of Nocturne, with TCPCMelville handling redstone, screenshots and videos. Construction was slow at first, since everyone was still learning the style of building, but then things really took off after a few days. At time we were all rather depressed over the huge amount of detailing and how our project got little attention even after we posted, but at other times the mood was quite the opposite.
We decided early on that we would have no empty shells for 'buildings' and that they would all be fully furnished and decorated. The map can be fully explored. Later on in the project, Melville built two giant redstone farms for the map. Finally, we submitted on Dec. 30. We hope that you enjoy this map!
