Oak Alley Plantation is surely the United States' second most recognizable plantation, right after Jefferson's Monticello. It was built in 1837 by the architect Joseph Pilié for the brother-in-law of a wealthy surgarcane magnate, Jacques Roman. It's situated near the Mississippi River in Vacherie, Louisiana. Originally it was called The Bon Séjour Plantation, before the house was built, but it later came to be known as Oak Alley for its prominant 28 oak trees that line the home's approach from the Mississippi River.
I built it to the best of my ability, down to the smallest details. Unfortunately, I didn't know what the inside looked like, so I came up with my own design from the few facts I knew. Each floor has a different "theme" of material and color.
Sadly, I don't know how to make custom trees, so there aren't any oaks. I don't intend to build furniture for this house, I kind of like it empty.
Let me know what you think!
