Welcome towards my "PMC Sustainable City" contest entry "Oasis Falls" city.

The location:
Oasis Falls is located near a mountain range on the edge of a desert. It is situated in a valley that was carved out by a natural dam failure flood. The valley makes the temperature more steady as the sun is longer blocked for overheating the place. It does provide a good shelter against storms as the extends of the mountain range blocks most of the heavy winds entering the valley.
Through the valley runs an important river of the desert. The inhabitants have chosen to rebuild the dam. As a result Oasis falls can maintain easily a proper water supply. In case when the falls dry up, the inhabitants can gather water out of the reservoir. This also means they can cut-off the river downstream of water. Thus making this city a strategic important place.
City arrangement:
The city is divided by the main river into two parts. One part is the living area which contains all the main houses, markets, workshops and public buildings. On top of the houses are farms situated. With this the households needs barely food from the farms.
The second part is were you enter, with the visitor quarters direct on the right side. In it's current state this part contains extra food production, wood production for building materials and animal farms.
See also the third picture from the gallery.
Energy usage
This city DOESN'T use electricity like in the old days. Instead it relies on old fashioned labor. The buildings are covered by a thick layer of earth, making it an isolated environment. It keeps the houses relative cold with the sourcing sun and relative warm in the blazing cold nights. Thus the household require minimal heating which can be reached by an extensive cooking session.
Light is provided by torches made of feces or compost leftovers. The inhabitants mainly move between dawn and dusk when the temperatures are acceptable. Rendering extensive placing of light sources unnecessary.
Food
As explained in the city arrangement, the households have their own farms for food production. Workshops, public buildings and reserves are fed by the (animal) farms. All food is in basis provided by the valley itself. The many jungle trees give a lot of cacou beans for a) own consumption & b) export.
Transport
The main way to go from one side to another side is by using your two feet. It's that simple. Sometimes transport may be done by using camels, after all it lies near a desert.
Water transport is done above grounds by making use of the water flow. The water doesn't go to each household but instead ends into a well on each household level. With this inhabitants can gather water without needing to walk stairs. This is done to remind the inhabitants that water is scarce in the desert. In case of a dry season and the falls don't fall, people need to gather water from the reservoir.
Waste
The sewer waste is collected on a daily base. The reason behind this is that using water for flushing it away is wasting precious water. Besides the feces are perfect soil improvements for farming or to make fires from it. A desert isn't a green place thus needing soil improvements each year to maintain a green look.

- Render made with__: Chunky
- Pictures edited with_: Gimp
- No redistribution WITH download link, link instead back to this page to download from.
- Yes I am aware this is an copy-paste-able project. But how else are the most city's made?
Plus I work on my own with limited time, say max 1 hour the day + uploading before the build teams.
Personally I appreciate more a thoughtful comment than a diamond.
So leave a comment if you like, having a question or not and say why :-)

the farms are good
big map with beatifull rocks
the interior looks good
It's certainly true it's an copy-paste-able build. I even acknowledge it in the "other info" section of my description. Could you be more specific about "the houses are very poor"? Did you meant it as in poor design or rather lower than usual looking living standard? Hmmm, yes it seems I need to randomize the farms the next time better. Thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks again :-)
