Oberneustädter Kirche or Karlskirche was the main church of the Oberneustadt. It was designed by french born Architect Paul du Ry, and was built in 1697, and finished on the 12th february 1710.

It was built as a french protestant church for the protestant refugees coming from France, (Huguenots) from which many settled down in the new Oberneustadt.

The Church was a octogonal/oval shaped body with a extension on the side facing the Frankfurter Straße. On top of it was originally a simple Lantern with a dome, which was later on replaced by the tall eclecticist style bell tower designed by Hugo Schneider.

On the 22th octobre 1943 it was destroyed during the bombing of the historic city center of Kassel which also included the Oberneustadt.

It was rebuilt as the only building in that area, and as one of the few churches in Kassel. However it was rebuilt in a heavily simplified way: The dome was not rebuilt, it instead has a pyramidical roof now, no copper parts are on the roof anymore and the tower in the middle is a simplistic modernistic cube shaped tower with a pyramidical roof on it.
