Welcome back to my second mega build here on PMC, I've been working on this for a month or two and I'm really excited to release it for you guys.
Overgrowth is a dystopian build, featuring a civilisation lost to a mysterious plant-life, a terraforming project gone wrong. The military was called in but to no-avail. The only hope now is to restart - and burn the planet to the ground...

Map is made in 1.12 on the Builder's refuge server, hope you guys enjoy exploring this one!

Renders made again by the amazing Lycqnn :)

In the year 2451, terraforming corp. Generation launches an expedition to find habitable planets. Rynodii 5 comes top on the list, and a colony fleet is sent to explore. Only 50 years later and the planet is almost fully urbanised, with several major cities. Life is fine, until pollution starts to become a problem. Rynodii 5 is an oil rich planet, and Industries had started to exploit this with mass petrochemical plants. Generation promises to cleanse the air with a terraforming project nicknamed ‘Project Breathe’. Generations facilities, based across the globe, would use particle emitters to change the harmful gasses into cleaner ones and keep the atmosphere healthy.
The project itself was a success, but it led to a much greater problem – the vine. The vine was a parasitic lifeform native to Rynodii 5. It could endlessly create clones of itself via tube-like ‘vines’ and spread rapidly. Generation had it contained, until the new atmosphere allowed to grow at an exponential rate. It broke free of containment areas and within weeks was encompassing the globe. Cities in its path were crumbled as the vine wrapped its way around. Generation called in its military to use its explosives to kill off the vine. However, this method was slow, expensive and ultimately useless if the vine already occupied a city area. People were forced to flee into the oceans where Generation was evacuation people from the planet via its space fleet. Rynodii 5 was left to the vine.
Except not all humans left. Not everyone could afford it, or wanted to leave their home behind. These survivors came known as the ‘Rynodii scavengers’ and lived in small communities, usually constantly moving across the globe, using old fuel vehicles as transport since the electric grid was down. The vine eventually calmed back down after using up most of the atmospheric gasses created in Project Breathe. Scavengers learnt that the vine actually could be used as a food source and almost embraced it.
Until Generation came back. Not wanting to waste a perfectly habitable planet, Generation had a plan. Bomb it into oblivion. And they did, tonnes upon tonnes of napalm-like substances were dropped over every continent, causing the vine to shrivel and die and the scavengers to seek shelter in underground tunnels and basements. Rynodii 5 was essentially turned into a planet-wide desert of burnt soil and ash. Then Generation started to re-colonise, under the new name of ‘CNC’, trying to alienate themselves from the corp. that had started the whole thing in the first place. The first mega city ‘Vivrostron’ was born in a matter of months due to revolutionary 3D printing techniques.
The scavengers, when they came out of hiding, were understandably not happy. Their world had essentially been burnt to the ground. In revenge, they launched attack after attack at Vivrostron. The outskirts of the city were rained on with mortars, forcing an evacuation. Construction had to be halted on the highway that was to lead further into the continent. CNC turned to its new military contractor, Reset Engineering.
Reset had built CNC’s new private army, consisting of smaller, lighter and more adaptable vehicles. It used search and destroy methods with ‘sky protectors’ to remove any scavenger camps near the city. Despite its efforts, the scavengers kept coming. Reset proposed a plan: a massive defensive wall to be built around Vivrostron and protect the city. Fit with turrets and sensors, the scavengers would not be able to get within 3km without being blasted to pieces. The wall was built within 3 months, cutting the peninsular Vivrostron was built on off from the rest of the planet. From then on, Vivrostron would be nicknamed ‘Border Town’…

This is an awesome map! It's a fairly large schematic and at first it seemed the the 3D World View of it was broken but I just had to fly down. Works fine for me once you see at least one reference block to fly towards :) If you go into settings, you can increase the the view distance.
