The realm of Faern consists of three major races: Humans, Elves, and Dwarves.
All three races were powerful, but the most powerful of all the races were the dwarves.
Dwarves:
The dwarves were an industrious and militaristic race, and they also had the richest markets, so rich travelers from far and wide would come to sell their goods and luxuries in the largest of Dwarven cities. Commerce also boomed across the realm because of the ancient underground highway system the dwarves built called the Deep Roads. The Deep roads spread for hundreds of thousands of miles across the world. Connecting the Thaigs (pronounced Tie-gs) (underground dwarven villages, separated by House/name), cities and races to make Faern the mightiest and wealthiest realm in Cordas. All the roads originated from one singular point, Harrendorr. The Grandest of all dwarves cities. And the richest too. It was the single most well protected and powerful Dwarven City in Faern, the likes of which no living being has ever seen. That was until the darkness came....
From the darkness strange creatures emerged.... The elders say the were not from this world.
The onslaught of the city did not begin at the city walls themselves. A deep rumbling was heard coming from the inner walls of the Deep Roads. It became louder and louder until it was deafening. The walls seemed to explode as demonic creatures poured into the bustling economic hub of the Deep Roads through tunnels that seemed to have no end. As soon as the legions of dwarves at Harrendorr got word of the slaughter that was taking place in the underground highway they were ordered to seal off the city from the Deep roads.
Hundreds of dwarves were trapped outside of the city unable to escape the darkness, left to die.
The Dwarven legions stood atop the wall that separated the city from the rest of the empire and could only watch as dwarven blood was spilled at their gates. All of a sudden an explosion rocked the entire wall. The legions did not understand what was happening. The massive stone blocks that made the wall now began to crumble and fall. Then Silence.........
Another explosion rocked the wall again, this time the wall fell.
The darkness rushed in through the massive opening in the fortifications and all at once the light of the city went dark. There were screams from the citizens of the city, but they only lasted for no more than a minute as the darkness claimed its prize...... Harrendorr.
Some of the legions perished as the wall fell, others were taken by the darkness, but the elders say that there was one legion, The Legion Of The Dead, that lives on within the grave of Harrendorr. No one can be for sure whether the Legion still lives or ever lived, since the overtaking of the stronghold no one dares to set foot in the overrun tunnels. The only people that go there are prisoners being sent to their deaths.
Above ground the darkness could not spread so the Elves and Humans became the wealthiest and most potent kingdoms of the realm while the Dwarves were left to fend for themselves with little help coming from anyone. But the dwarves are a defiant race and have managed to live on. But are only a shadow compared to their ancestors. The Dwarves have now relocated their capital to an old, but large, Thaig at the very edge of the Deep Roads named Tholmuir.

Elves:
Sophisticated and Philosophical, they are the most refined race in the world of Cordas. They are also one of the most solitary, almost never leaving their homelands. Unless it is to contact the other Empires. They have lived in the same spot for centuries. That spot is the Valendruil, a grand Oak tree that has survived centuries upon centuries. It has grown for so long the tree now stands hundreds of feet tall, towering over the surrounding forest. The inside of the tree has been carved in such a way that it provides a luxurious home for the Elvish kingdom but still allows the tree to grow. The Elves, since their beginnings, have grown larger in number so they have constructed a city alongside the hills and cliffs that surround Valendruil.
