The RMS Mauretania 2 was one of the first ocean liners build for the Cunard-White Star Line. Build by the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead and was at the time the largest ship build in England. Launched in 1938 and her maiden voyage on 17 June 1939, she would only have a short pre-war service before being commissioned by the Royal Navy as a troopship, just like her namesake in the Great War.
She would return to passenger service in 1947 and in 1962 her hull would be painted pale green as she did more and more cruises.
In 1965 it was announced she would be withdrawn from service and sold. She was sold to the British Iron & Steel Corporation and on the 20th of November she would sail her final voyage to Inverkeithing, Scotland and in late 1966 the RMS Mauretania 2 was gone.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2023!
