The construction contract for the Basilica Julia was commissioned during the consulate of Gaius Julius Caesar and introduced in his dictatorship. It replaced the ancient ravaged temple of Jupiter and became the largest and most important building of Romanesque paganism in Rome. Today, the basilica is the last large building of Roman paganism in Rome. The other ancient temples were converted by the growing influence of the builder's church. The building is primarily dedicated to Jupiter, but also offers shrines for Vulkanus, Minerva, Pluto, Mars, Neptune and Juno.

Der Bauauftrag für die Basilica Julia wurde während des Konsulates von Gaius Julius Caesar in Auftrag geben und in seiner Diktatur eingeführt. Sie ersetzte den alten maroden Tempel des Jupiters und wurde die größten und wichtigsten Gebäude des romanischen Heidentums in Rom. Heute ist die Basilica das letzt große Gebäude des römischen Heidentums in Rom. Die anderen alten Tempel wurde durch den wachsenden Einfluss der Kirch des Erbauers umfunktioniert. Das Gebäude ist primär dem Jupiter geweiht, bietet doch auch Schreine für Vulkanus, Minerva, Pluto, Mars, Neptun und Juno.
