"Shuksan" is a Lummi Indian word (šéqsən) supposedly meaning "high peak".
This island is roughly 3.5km north to south, and 2.5km east to west. The land is survival ready with caves and ores. A chain of mountains runs through the center of the mini-continent and separates the forested west from the dry barren east. The biomes are all vanilla, but you will find the landscape more than makes up for this. Mount Shuksan itself rises to y=247 and is bounded by cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls on all sides. In many places Mega Taiga, Roofed Forest, Forest, Birch, and Jungle biomes intermingle. There are also Taiga, Ice Plains, Plains, Desert, Savanna, and Mesa biomes.
Along the west coast are a series of awesome canyons. These are replicas of a portion of The Maze district of Canyonlands National Park and the Dirty Devil River; both are found in Utah (irl).
HOW:
The map is a mosiac of 7 different height maps blended together using default brushes. There about about 30 or so waterfalls around Mt Shuksan and each of these were carefully designed to flow a certain way (in-game). Larger streams were drawn in worldpainter and cleaned up in-game.
Whats Next?
Please leave a diamond if you like this project!
Potential improvements:
1. replace vanilla biomes with custom trees, bushes, and rocks
2. replace worldpainter cave-gen with standard minecraft caves
3. create some ore veins (or quartz?) in the mountains
4. make the 'boring' portions of the continent better.
