This whole build resulted from me and marvelfan talking about alexandria one thing led to another i ended up buying a book and decided to try and reconstruct how a large scale church in byzantine era alexandria may have looked.This ended up becoming roughly around the scale of the st polyuktos church that was in constantinople although theres speculation there could have been even bigger ones in the city. the only buildings left that we have to base it on are the red and white monestaries in egypt (both inspired by churches that were in alexandria) since any traces of the ancient churches in alexandria were all destroyed or covered up when the modern city were built. there are a bunch of characteristics known about them such as they pioneered pendative domes and blazed the trail for later churches like the hagia sophia and st polyuktos (which itself was inspired by churches in alexandria). The churches also continued to be painted and mosaiced in helonistic styles and very often made use of existing egyptian temples and took alot of exterior design cues from them. The churches of the holy sepulchure and the church of the nativity are also thought to have been inspired by churches in alexandria
