From the creator of Mario Kart in Minecraft comes another racing map! This one's free of copyrighted material and is intended to release as an official Minecraft Realms map. Sprint Racer isn't just a simple copy/paste however-- this map has many new features, optimizations, and improvements that make the experience tighter. It's far more streamlined and polished than MKMC ever was.

  • Map supports any number of players (1 to infinity)
  • Played on Minecraft: Java Edition 1.14.4 or later (1.15 works fine)
  • No resource pack required

GAMEMODES
Race Mode: Race to the finish on a linear track
Battle Mode: Fight in an open arena for the highest KO count

TRACKS
23 race tracks, 6 battle arenas

ITEMS
20 unique items. Every item also has an upgraded "enchanted" variant.

BOTS
You can race or battle against computer-controlled zombies. They move, pick up and use items, take shortcuts, and compete just like a human player can. You can have up to 9 of them... if your computer can handle that! Make sure the server's tick length doesn't exceed 50ms during gameplay, or else the bots will start slowing down.

PERFORMANCE OPTIONS
Computer having trouble keeping up? Visit the sandstone building in the lobby and you can enable [FASTER] performance mode, which nearly doubles server performance at a slight cost of responsiveness. You can also reduce the number of bots you play against or disable them entirely, also improving performance.

SUPPORT FOR TRANSLATION
Sprint Racer's datapack is organized in such a way that all in-game text elements are in a separate folder, meaning you won't have to dig through mountains of extra code to translate everything. You can easily pop a new "sprint_racer_language" folder into the datapack to change language!

PLAYED MARIO KART IN MINECRAFT? HERE'S WHAT'S CHANGED:
  • Everything has been re-written as a datapack, vastly improving performance both server-side and client-side
  • Lobby has been simplified big-time, it's now much easier to pop in and start playing almost immediately
  • Added bots, making singleplayer play much more enjoyable
  • Loads of new items have been added, bad/clunky/useless items have been cut
  • Item chests come in many different flavors now
  • Gameplay is generally faster now
  • Old tracks have been modified and improved in many ways
  • New track: Scorched Sands
  • All copyrighted material is removed (Mario Kart tracks, tracks from other racing games, etc)
  • Time trials mode has been cut
  • Mirror mode has been cut

1 Update Logs

v1.0.3 : 10/12/2019 1:09:07 pmOct 12th, 2019

  • "Official" release, we're out of beta and into the 1.0's!
  • Added more options to control performance and the AI, defaults are now more friendly to most computers
  • Fixed a handful of bugs, most of which involve the AI
  • Included a resources.zip in the world file (gives the visuals a nice bump)
  • Inside the datapack there are now "config" files, edit these to enable "Realms mode" among other things.
Exciting news: an official Java Realms release is imminent! Next batch of Realms maps will include Sprint Racer.

Not planning to, I'm very sorry. Porting Sprint Racer to Bedrock Edition would be a very lengthy process. There are no datapacks in Bedrock and many commands are either simplified or missing, meaning the map would be lacking a lot of features. Sprint Racer is already a remake of Mario Kart in Minecraft and I have no desire to remake the map a third time.

I've sunk a ton of time into Minecraft and I plan to move on to creating games independently... once I finish the upcoming Sprint Racer update and another cool project I've been working on.

You're probably on the Realms version of the map. The AI count can't be changed on that version because the Realms servers can't handle higher numbers of AI, sorry!

There currently aren't any ways to modify the two core game modes, Race and Battle, other than changing the AI or item settings. Mario Kart in Minecraft had more settings, but Sprint Racer is intended to be a more focused experience built with the default gamemode rules in mind.

Alternate functions for Race and Battle mode ARE in the works for Sprint Racer though, such as an elimination mode for races (the player in last place gets eliminated every 30 seconds or so) and an elimination mode for battles (players have 3 lives like in Mario Kart's battle mode). That's coming in v1.1.

Is there a way to make your own levels?

There's no official level editor mode like in Mario Kart but it IS possible to add new tracks, this just requires a bit of knowledge on how commands and functions work.

Here's a quick guide [link]

Sprint Racer and MKMC are still different maps, and Sprint Racer is much more trimmed down in order to fit comfortably on Minecraft Realms and it generally focuses on the core parts of the combat racing established in MKMC. For now I'd recommend sticking with MKMC for custom track creation.

It's not out yet! Coming in v1.1.

For now, just type this command to allow free roaming:
/scoreboard players reset @e[name=w] gameState

and then use this command to return normal map function:
/scoreboard players set @e[name=w] gameState 0

did you happen to take out the music that was in the last version?

Yeah, unfortunately there's no music in Sprint Racer. I figured it might be difficult to get a soundtrack cleared on Realms when it's made of music we didn't make, even if it's supposedly "creative commons". Creating a fully original soundtrack is possible, but it's a huge undertaking that I don't think we're ready for. The soundtrack would also bloat the resource pack quite a bit, causing much longer download times.

Might be added back in future updates, maybe as a "non-Realms exclusive feature"... We'll see! Currently a v1.1 update is in the works with some new features such as a Free Roam mode and a Time Attack mode, both frequently requested features.

Bug: In the newest version (v1.0.3), if you try to change the AI count for Battle mode, it changes it for race mode instead.
