The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an american Great Lakes freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on november 10, 1970, with the loss of the entire crew of 29 men. When the ship was launched in 1958, it was the biggest ship in the Great Lakes, and remains the largest to ever had sunk there. The wreck was discovered on november 14, 1975 by the U.S. Navy, and was found to be in two large pieces. During the day of the sinking, several calls were heard from ships near the Fitzgerald, wich show that the ship and her crew were going through significant difficulty in the storm. The exact cause of the sinking is still a mystery, with theories saying that the Edmund Fitzgerald may have been swamped, suffered structural failure or topside damage, grounded on a shoal, or suffered from a combination of these.
