Hello, my name is Shel and this is my take on St. Mary's Basilica, in Kraków, Poland. The building is a Basilica in Southern Poland that was first finished in 1222.

St. Mary's Basilica was built in 1221-1222 by Iwo Odrowąż, the bishop of Kraków. It was mostly destroyed during the Mongol invasions of Poland, and was rebuilt from 1290-1300 in a Gothic style. In 1355 it was yet again rebuilt by Casimir III the Great to elongate the presbytery and make taller windows. In the fifteenth century the main tower was raised to serve as a watchtower for the entire city of Kraków. In 1536-1537 Sigismund I declared that the sermons in the the church must be changed from German to Polish, to which the large German population started to use the smaller St. Barbara's Church. Near the start of the ninteenth century, the cemetery near the Basilica was to be replaced with a large square today known as Marian Square. Recently in 2010, a funeral ceremony for Polish President Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria was held to honor them.
