This is my first time submitting a schematic to PMC. Since my family is from Russia I wanted to try St. Vasily's in Moscow (St. Basil's). I've seen a few other people try it and I knew it would be challenging. I found if I made it in the correct scale relative to the player, I couldn't capture enough key features. So I went with about 2x normal size. It's large enough to capture most important features, but small enough that it can be used on any map without looking too big.
I appreciate what others who have tried to replicate St. Vasily's have gone thru, with the endless arches and compound curves, the onion domes, and fine detail on the towers and interior walls. But I did the best I could and I think it came out okay. The dimensions are 100 blocks wide, 120 blocks tall, and 77 blocks deep. You can see it on Elseland server (IP: else.land). Feel free to use it for whatever. We use it as a hub for quests. It took me about a month to build.
Unlike gothic cathedrals, St. Vasily's is dark and cramped inside. To reproduce this feel, I used only redstone torches and light diffused by slabs or stairs inside.

First, I got a Planet Minecraft account just so I could comment on this build.
Second, I actually have had the wonderful opportunity to visit St. Basil's in person - so I feel like I have some expertise to lend to my comments. :-)
Third and most important - I think this is absolutely about the best Minecraft build I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Gorgeous use of materials and adaptation of dimensions to real life. The use of the Nether Portals? Genius.
Thanks for a great piece of work. I am greatly enjoying exploring it!
