Star Wars Chess! You play it like chess, but with Star Wars characters! It all works in vanilla minecraft without a resourcepack. It is made with armorstands, custom heads and a lot of commandblocks.
The chess mechanics where made by Slicedlime. I have his permission to post the chessgame with a Star Wars theme. If you want to learn more about the mechanics of the chessgame, I suggest you go to Slicedlime profile page to check out his youtube channel.
You can play the game with two players, but if you have no friends you can still check it out by selecting the one player mode.
If you are familiar with chess you will notice that this chessgame has all the special moves implemented except for check and checkmate. Just check it out for yourself!

Multiplayer server
It might be a little slower but the Chessgame also works on a multiplayer server. You will need to update the commands.yml into this (to make sure the server uses the vanilla minecraft commands):
