The Swedish Warship Vasa, famous for capsizing and sinking on it's maiden voyage after 1.3 km due to a gust of wind, thanks to it's flawed top heavy design and miscalculations with measurements during construction. It has been lifted from the cold Baltic Sea and now it's wreck rests in the Vasa Museet in Stockholm.

There are a lot of different depictions of the ship, some have a white hull, some have gold painted ornaments, some have colourful ornaments, some have a red line going along the side of the top decks, some have a blue line... It really really varies.

Just to clarify, there were gold in parts of the stern and bow ornamentation, but mostly painted. And the hull wasn't white.

Yes the hull historically wasn't white, maybe it wasn't clear enough from my answer before I said the depictions varied (Like paintings models etc), not the actual historical ship, I built it based on models and added the white hull for aesthetics. :)

Haha, yes. The ship apparently accounted for just over 5% of Sweden's GDP at the time, so a very expensive mistake.

General lesson from Military History, don't let a proud Monarch or leader interfere with the time of development of a new weapon/vehicle/ship especially if it goes against the advice of those who are making it.
Best examples King Gustav II Adolf or Adolf Hitler. Oh wait... What a coincidence..
