All economy servers have shops that have a house underneath, or on top. Now, If you are starting a new server, and you are an op, sometimes you don't want to build your own house, or maybe you just want an interesting house in single player. If so, this is the page for you.
What I have built is a house that doubles as a shop. It is built to work with plugins allowing players to create shops on half slabs or chests. I believe that Iconomy does this. Anyway, if you don't want to mod your server, there is the classic water exchange system installed. The other side of the exchange area can be accessed from the house. It contains the light-switch, giving the owner the ability to make their store "open" or "closed", the other end of the water exchange system, a dispenser, and a view of the store.
Upstairs, in the house, it is mostly unfurnished. I made it like this as so that the user can create a completely customized living space. It is open, so new rooms can be made by dividing the main room up, and also, a large skylight is installed, as well as toggle-able light switch. Outside a balcony looks down on the world below. A great plus to this is that all of the redstone if hidden or on the roof, making it impossible to see without flying.

- The ground outside the house is interchangeable, meaning you can make it whatever you want to match the environment - sand, water, anything but lava.
- The shop is in the front, and the house is in the back.
- The welcome sign and item name signs are just placeholders.
