Overview
The 'Perfect Marionette' is a piece made for the Builder's Refuge Apex Contest, which portrays the theme of Human Achievement in a two-fold way. One through art, it's culture and views; another through perfection, and what every human being desires. Rather than tackle the theme head on and create yet another stereotypical construction, I turned the theme into a question and I asked myself over and over, "What is it that humans desire to achieve?" The answer that came to me was 'perfection'.
At the center of the piece sits the girl, holding what seems to be a glass ball; however the item is of no significance. It is whatever you desire that she holds, whatever signifies your achievement. A reflection of perfect beauty. The puppeteer looms over her, representing the many conditions and emotions one is controlled by as they embark on their own odyssey.
Rococo culture has always intrigued me, as I always sense a transcendence to perfection in each of the intricate details carved into sculptures, painted on canvas, sewn onto dresses. It is something to be seen, to be felt, that which shakes the core of your being to understand the real meaning of human achievement. And thus, I constructed a piece which incorporates many of the previous techniques I have learned, from architecture to sculpture, colors to shapes. It is, in a sense, a true form of my human achievement.
