Insula Ignota; the ancient island of mystery and folklore, once a magical place, now in ruin... The island was once a haven for magical creatures and for thousands of years they dwelled here, living full, satisfying lives. The brownies, fairy, nymphs, centaurs, and mermaids all lived in harmony. Even the elves and dwarves were friends. In the past year strange things have occurred; once proud and graceful creatures the centaurs were the first to notice. Hoards of rat-like things began to appear throughout the countryside. At first they dismiss them as a simple vermin infestation. As the problem became worse, the small critters became prone to attack and injured several centaurs. When the centaurs set out to exterminate them they swarmed them and the horse-men were seen no more. The rest fled to the hills. The Centaurs zealousness soon proved to be their fall as they consented not to tell the rest of the island-folk. By the time the centaurs fled from their forest homes the nymphs were overcome. Being naturally less pious than the centaurs they held council with the others who lived on the island. It was decided that the elves and dwarves, being the most well equipped for battle, would prepare to guard the island. They excepted an army to come, but no one did, no yet at least...

Not long after the dwarves and elves had set up precautionary defenses, a different type of attack began. This time several dwarves observed a newfound tint in the wells where clear, mineral water flowed regularly. Before the elves could examine the water more intensely, many dwarves and elves alike broke out with large, lumpy boils. The water soon turn deadly and over 20 were lost. Before their graves could even be dug a new trouble emerged. Large brambles ran like vines up the walls and fortifications. They were brushed off as "harmless creepers" but "harmless" became fatal when it was discover that their thorns were toxic. These were troublesome matters, but only small needles into the giant. It was not until the enemy approached the gates that they decided to flee.

With thousands of rat-like demons at the elven gates, even the wise and powerful elves decided to abandon their homes. The small vermin had become known as "silverfish" for their silver backs and swarming nature, which closely resembled a school of fish. Another council was held and it was decided to abandon everything. Every creature young and old, save the mermaids and centaurs, flocked to the gates of the last remaining stronghold; The Dwarven Grottos. The mermaids were too stubborn and vain to be cramped in with the other creatures and so they remained outside and soon perished. The centaurs felt remorse for not warning the other creatures and held up in the high arches. Only the realm of the fairies, high in the air, remained untouched. Would it remain that way?

It was now that the unknown assailant, whoever it may be, unleashed his strongest blow. The dwarves and elves felled by the tainted springs, now rose from the grave and sought after the living. Ancient graves, that had been forgotten long ago, were opened and their inhabitants brought back to life. All the flesh had gone from these ancient beings and they looks leaner and bonier than the newer undead. The zombies and skeletons surged the Dwarven Gates, but they held fast, a pinnacle of light in the coming darkness.

The High Dwarf King sat in his chambers high above the grottos and thought "How can I counter such an evil, an evil such that I know not?" His answer came quickly when he noticed many of the elves praying in a circle by the firelight. The King prayed to the Dwarf God Thohir and asked for a hero to rise and defeat the advancing shadow. Now you have appeared. You were not born, but created, created for a sole purpose...
