Just an idea - I feel like the top roof could do with another enclosed space underneath (by raising the roof), with columns supporting it, a bit like at the bottom. Basically a big portico. It would be like the accessible rooftop areas a lot of skyscrapers have now, and I think it would further the temple aesthetic you’ve got going. Only if you’ve got room for it though, and besides it might look silly but if it’s not too much trouble it might be worth a try to see how it looks. The portico might look good tall, or perhaps only a fraction of the height of the lower ones, just to create a space which is exposed to light and air but covered.

unfortunately im already scraping build height, but I do like the idea since im not totally happy with the roof myself yet. I will have to sacrifice some height in the middle and lower things down a bit to get that in there tho.

Cool, I hope it turns out well! Always annoying working with the height limit...
Have you ever considered the cubic chunks mod? It makes the height effectively infinite but the problem is, it lacks compatibility with pretty much every other mod - making using WorldEdit, for example, or better yet MCEdit, completely impossible for now. However, if you're a fan of the 'traditional' building process of block-by-block then it might interest you haha. If Schematica were made compatible, that would pretty much solve the problem, but as far as I know it doesn't work with it yet.

I like to keep things vanilla as possible so I dont build with things that require mods. mc edit is essential to how I build, anything that it cant work on is useless to me, so block by block is a huge waste of time for me because of the large scale that I build at and ive never been a fan of it, id rather focus on designing the building instead. what im interested in is the final product, not how I get there.

Yeah I can totally relate to that. MCEdit is essential, without it Minecraft on its own throws up too many barriers to truly great builds. The scale you can achieve with MCEdit is without parallel, and Minecraft lends itself to scale since detailing small buildings is pretty hard and doesn't look right, but on massive builds small details really stand out.

yes exactly, finally someone that understands why I still build in 1.12. id love to use the new blocks, but them changing the save format in 1.13 really screwed us, making all the new updates since then utterly worthless.

ive pleaded with mojang and everyone to make a professional grade editing program but so far no one has done so, and the progress being made on amulet is far too slow. builders like me need power tools like mc edit to get things done in a reasonable amount of time, and without them most projects are just unfeasible.
