Attention! If you become triggered quick by things related to the 3rd Reich or similar stuff just go away and don't complain. This is not a good place for you to stay.

The Word of Stone - Welthauptstadt Germania 1959

After about 4 years of collecting pictures and information, reading books and contacting several archives we are finally ready to build the most accurate version of Germania, the new Berlin.
On the 10th of August 2016 me and my good old firend SHJ1991 started to build this mega project after we were certain that we have most of the information we could get after all this years.

The name of the Project, The Word of Stone, or originally in german Das Wort aus Stein, is the name of a german documentary from 1939 about the new architecture of german cities such as Berlin and Munich.
We think that the names fits very well to our project since we include a wide divesity on builds from the time between 1932-1945 not only from Berlin, but also from cities like Munich, Nuremberg as well as our own fictional designs.

Purpose of this project is to recreate something that only existed on plans and has never been seen in reality. Beside the buildings we also want to recreate a realistic and historical atmosphere. Most important is, that we don't support any kind of national socialist ideology. Furthermore, as I already mentioned in the beginning, you should better go away if you get easily triggered by stuff like that. If you still feel the need to complain about this or start any political discussions down in the comments, feel free to do so and make your-self a fool to all publicity. I made a clear statement about this which can't be misunderstood.

The project is placed in the year 1959. We have chosen this date to be able to include the whole plan of Germania as well as the Südstadt and our own fictional ideas for buildings and parts of the city.

Inspiration to our alternative history is the series "The Man in the High Castle" which I can highly recommend if you don't know it yet.

After victory of the national socialists in 1933 life in germany changed a lot. In a very short period of time germany was one of the most modern industrial powers in the world. A time of wellfare and prosperity was the result of this modernization and developement. In addition to this the new regime established a new mean of culture and aesthetics in germany.
With Paul Ludiwg Troost, the first and most favourite architect of the regime, a new style of Architecture and Art was formed in germany. He was the role model for upcomming artists and architects of the 3rd Reich.
National socialist architecture is based on the classical styles like roman or greek architecture. By combining them with new established streams of architecture of the 1920's like for example Bauhaus or Art Déco, 3rd Reich architecture got it's unique look. A well made mixture of classical styles with modern or even futuristic looking elements considering the time.

Here a little collage of germany related posters from the 1930-40's

The Architects:

1. Paul Ludwig Troost (1878-1934)
- Role model of 3rd Reich architecture, mainly know for "Haus der deutschen Kunst" and many other buildings mostly in Munich.

2. Albert Speer (1905-1981)
- Hitler's favourite architect after P.L.Troost, chief inspector for the alteration of Berlin. Known for the "Reichsparteitagsgelände Nuremberg", "Neue Reichskanzlei", "Große Platz" and the general plan of "Welthauptstadt Germania".

3. Ernst Sagebiel (1892-1970)
- Designer of the "Reichsluftfahrtministerium", "Flughafen Tempelhof" and several other Airports and Air Command Centres in Germany

4. Wilhelm Kreis (1873-1955)
- Influencial architect from 1900-1930's. Known for "Deutsches Hygienemuseum", "Luftgaukommando IV Dresden", various monuments and "Bismarcktürme". His designs for Germania were never realized. Models and groundplans exist partially.

5. Werner March (1894-1976)
- Designer of the "Reichssportfeld Berlin" including the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Village.

6. Konstanty Gutschow (1902-1978)
- Designer of the alterings planned for Hamburg (Gauhochhaus, Elbhochbrücke). From 1943 chief of the staff for the renovation of bomb-damaged cities.

The Artists

Arno Breker (1900-1991) and Josef Thorak (1889-1952)
-Both were sculptors who worked close together with the architects of the 3rd Reich. Their sculptures were supposed to decorate the buildings and plazas of Berlin, Munich, etc.

Could you scan and release some of the book you have bought for the project? I have not been able to find a good source of architectural and artistic documentation online (for instance, photo books of architecture of the 3rd Reich/architectural plans and photo books of Arno Breker's statues among other things) and am not able to purchase any of the original books due to their price. Thank you.

How did you find out the role of the buildings (like the oberkammdo des heeres or todt ministerium for example) and the colour of them?

Well, it's basically buying and reading a lot of books as well as doing other kinds of research.

We don't know the colour and role of each single building but for about 60%. For the the rest of 40% we just look what could fit for the building and orientate on things we already know from other buildings such as commonly used materials, etc.
You really need to understand the aesthetics of that time and do a lot of research.
