Hello everyone, I want to present you my last creation. After making Europe, the Hawaii and other countries I recreated the United States of America in Minecraft. To make this map, I used satellite datasets freely accessible to the public and merged them together to elaborate an accurate and playable world.
In particular, I used of NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission as my main source for topography, GEBCO Gridded Bathymetry data for the bathymetry of the sea and ESA CCI Land cover dataset to have information about the biomes and the terrain composition.
I included other minor datasets as well, such as WWF HydroSHEDS for an accurate river network, Eurostat country borders and US.gov state border. Everything was analyzed with the program QGIS and then the actual Minecraft world was made with the program WorldPainter.
You can find the download in the video description, among with other information about the installation.
Some information about the map:
• Total map size: 24,803 x 13,582 blocks.
• 1:239 scale for the surface and 1:41 for the height. (It means that one in-game block represents 239 IRL meters on the XZ plane and 41 IRL meters on the Y axis.)
• Landscapes faithfully reproduced using satellite data.
• Accurate country and state borders.
• Sailable rivers scaled to the flow using the river network dataset.
• Perfectly playable in both survival and creative mode
Frequently Asked Questions:
• Is it possible to make the entire world? – Yes, but the scale would be significantly smaller due to QGIS’ limitations.
• Which version does this map support? – At the moment, only the Java 1.12.2 or lower versions but I plan to make it compatible with newer ones too. (I need to load every chunk with a dynmap in 1.12.2 and then convert it in the newer versions.)
• Can I use your map in a YouTube video? – Yes, but please credit me and my work in the video and in the description.
• Do you accept commissions? - Yes, I do.
