USS Montana- Battleship (Created by LemonGem3021668)
The Montana class battleships where designed as the successors to the Iowa class, gaining aditional armor and firepower at the cost of speed and mobility. 5 ships where planned, none where laid down. Carrying 12 16/50 guns, they would have been able to fire over 32,000 lb of amunition from their main guns combined, giving the Montanas the heaviest broadside of any ship ever designed. their 5/54 guns where an improvement over the 5/38s, firing farther and faster. They would carry huge amounts of AA weaponry and would have been well suited to esscorting task forces. Unfortunatley they lost the Iowas high speed, and by the time shipyards where ready to begin construction, the Japanese Navy had been completely destroyed and thus the trade off for firepower and armor was uneeded. The class was cancelled by 1944 and materials went to building Essex class aircraft carriers. This model represents the Montanas as designed, with boat cranes in between the funnels.
x12 16/50 Guns
x20 5/54 DP Guns
x60 40mm AA mounts
x50 20mm AA mounts
Please give me credit if you use any of the designs on this ship, I worked on this for a long time.
