There is a place known as the Vale of Spirits, a valley full of strange and ancient wonders and dangers, magic, and the divine.

It is the night of Halloween, the veil between worlds is at it's thinnest, and yet the full moon has not fallen below the zenith for what seems to have been hours.

Someone or something has frozen the natural progression of time at the mansion on the far end of the road, and many monsters and treasures stand between you and saving the land.

Are you up to it, brave hero?

IMPORTANT:

This adventure supports virtually any number of players, though is best enjoyed with two to six (excess may spectate).

Players have up to 3 Courage, and lose one courage every time they are defeated. Players who drop to 0 courage become incorporeal and can not interact with the world again unless another player revives them.

Shrines are dotted around the world that save players' respawn points. Larger shrines also replenish a player's Vigor (HP) and courage.

Monsters hit hard, especially in later Zones, tread with caution.

Natural regeneration is disabled, but there are plenty of healing items to keep yourself strong and ready for battle.

Expected play time of 2 to 6 hours.

Spells - Spells are items you obtain either from purchase at shop or dropped from enemies. To activate them, drop them on the ground. WARNING! Spells don't activate if you are submerged in lava because lava destroys the spell before it can activate!

Healing Aura - Heals players for 8 Vigor (4 Hearts) and harms most undead within a 40 Block radius.

Ice Shards - Freezes nearby enemies, stopping them from moving. Does not affect flying or purple-named enemies.

Whirl Wind - Launches nearby enemies high into the air and extinguishes all nearby fires. Does not affect purple-named enemies.

Lightning - Strikes up to 10 nearby enemies with bolts of lightning.

Bombs - After a few seconds, explodes with a bang, dealing a chunk of blasting damage to everything around it and destroying specific cracked walls. May be picked up before detonation to cancel.

Boss Key - The Zone 3 crypt has a big door that can only be opened by finding the boss key within the crypt and then throwing the key at the door.


Healing Items - Certain items may be consumes to replenish Vigor and even gain temporary Vigor (absorption) or other benefits.

Harvest Pie - Pumpkin pies are your primary source of food in the Vale of Spirits. On top of replenishing a large portion of your hunger, they also restore 8 Vigor (4 hearts). And yes, the Zone 1 shop's typo pies were intentionally left in as a bad joke.

Magic Apple - A normal golden apple, aside from all the colorful text.

Spirits Cider - A cider brewed from apples picked in the Vale of Spirits. It grants a little bit of Regeneration, Absorption, and Strength.

Apple of Spirits - A normal Notch Apple, aside from all the colorful text.

Icon of Spirits - A totem of undying, except it fully restores your Vigor on activation and has colorful text.

NEW MODE: Those confident in their ability to survive (or in their friends) may elect to play in Hard Core mode, where their Courage is capped to one.

Dungeon and World design is based heavily on Wonder Boy 3/Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, and a little on traditional Zelda games.
