Valetiae - Roman Colonia of Malta
Presented by Respublica and Origines
The Roman city of Valetiae is the administrative hub of the island of Malta, along with the isle of Gozo to the north. Founded by the Romans on the ruins of a Carthaginian settlement in the dying years of the Second Punic War it has flourished with the maritime dominance Rome has held ever since over the central Mediterranean. Caesar has just triumphed over Pompey at Pharsalus and the warring factions on Malta have withdrawn in the face of the Julii’s victory. Malta was untouched by the civil war however Gozo’s fields ran red with blood as Roman legion clashing against Roman legion and this has led to unrest among the once Hellenic local populace. A local religious figure known as Sasan is leading a rebellion that threatens the stability of the region and has so far been met with success, driving the Roman military from Gozo and even pressing deep into Malta. However Valetiae’s walls were strong enough to hold the rebels at bay and even now the legio prepares to press out to retake the surrounding area.
The city itself is relatively new, having been rebuilt following a series of fires in recent decades. As a result its districts are quite pronounced; a wealthy area filled with domus, gardens and shrines is mirrored on the other side of the city by those less financially able. Its centrepiece is an ornate basilica and forum district, neighboured by a large circus which is sometimes flooded for aquatic spectacles. Its citizens are also new, with many immigrating from a fledgling colony on the coast of Iberia, this coupled with a newly deployed legion sent from Sicilia by the Propraetor Gaius Verres means that the city is lively while its surrounding area is unexplored, the new inhabitants anxious when it comes to advancing out into Malta.
Will you climb the social ladder working your way up into government? Will you create a mercantile empire and bathe in golden denarii? Or perhaps you’ll join the legion and drive back the local rebels as part of a well-oiled fighting machine? From ancient ruin to thieves guild tunnel there’s plenty to discover in Valetiae and on the Isle of Malta.

What is the server "Respublica"?
Respublica is a Minecraft roleplaying server based on Ancient Rome and classical antiquity, specifically the late roman republic around the time of the life of Julius Caesar. The server sees itself as a successor to the Romecraft brand of servers that were started by Stugace, which was based off of his resource pack, Romecraft. The server’s roots lie in an original iteration of “Respublica Origines” which has since split into the current branches of; Respublica, which develops ancient themed roleplay servers and scenarios, and into Origines, which creates realistic custom maps and has its own build team.
The server itself is modeled after a Roman themed-Game of thrones hybrid with many factions of families, as well as a legion, and various government positions. The current scenario is set on a beautifully world painted set of islands, Malta and Gozo, where in the aftermath of the civil war between Pompey and Julius Caesar, local rebels have taken up arms against the Romans. This creates many exciting opportunities for players with both PvP and PvE, as well as political and daily life roleplay.
The server runs off the Technic Launcher system with its own modpack and resource pack which greatly enhance the RP aspect of the server. These include public mods such as Battlegear 2 and Balkons weapon mod, as well as our own custom mods which add things such as a vast range of Roman armour.
