There is a simple way to make good looking couches without using any of those ugly blocks, but instead using beds, signs, and World Edit. If you do not know what world edit is, it is a simple world editting program that you are able to download to your single player or multyplayer server. By using this it can help create the things you wouldn't usually be able to build on any survial world and if anything it speeds up the building progress. Such as a snowglobe like this...

So all you need is a sign, a block of any kind that the signs can stick onto, a bed, and the world edit program itself. When you first start off doing world edit you want to retrieve the wand you are going to be using but instead grab any item you want to apply this command to: //replace that will then apply the replacing tool to the object you are holding.
Next you want to place the block you chose on a surface and then place signs onto the blocks with nothing on it, this will serve as our arm rests. just make sire it goes all the way around

When you are done with that in order to activate the replacer tool you have added to your item you want to place any kind of block behind where you what your couch to be and beside it (This will help give the signs something to grab onto when you are making the back of the couch). Set your bed on the ground in any direction you want the couch to be facing. You want to place one a specific direction and another one in a reversed direction. So if you have the pillow on the left you want another bed so the pillow is facing the right, kind of like this.
undefined
Place a bed sideways so it looks like the legs of the couch are going horizontal, then you want to left click the sign that looks like it would fit on the back of the couch and right click the block behind it. Keep doing the same thing until you are happy with the back of the couch. Then do the same thing with the sides except using a different direction of the signs you ahve placed on a spare block and then right click on either side of the couch. When you are done is should look like this. Feel free to make it like your own and experiment with the replacer tool!!

If this seems confusing to you try this video for mor help on this concept!!
