I have been deep in my architectural studies at university, so I have been away for quite some time. But! I still intend to have a version of this map complete before the end of the 100th anniversary of the Great War.

This project is just a reconstruction of trenches from WWI. I might be doing a project that reflects the battle of fort Douaumont at some point in the future!

Once I can put a little more work into the map I might put up a download, I will certainly offer a download once the map is complete!

And I have not learned of the battle of Vauquoi, I assume it is tied closely to the battle of Verdun. Could you possibly tell me more about it?
Wow, this is really nice. I'm really looking forward to this map!

Good work! To echo what you said on my project, it's good to see some WWI builds out there. The whole thing seems very well thought out and realistic. :)
Many thanks! Yeah, keeping it real is a difficult task though. I keep learning about new facets that the trenches had back then so I have to spend hours going back over the trenches that I have built to add some minute detail. It's painful, but I think it is worth it.
Anyways, keep up the great work and thank you for the compliments!
Excuse me, but can you please tell a certain Pickel how to Download this map? Also, please don't make fun of my Username, too common and too annoying.
Its a unique username. Memorable. And I am still working on the map, but be on the lookout because I plan to have it done by this Summer! I am just as eager as you are, trust me.

loving all the new additions, still lookng fantastic, cant wait to try it out! :D
Currently searching for a server that I think will be a suitable host for official games. If you find any that have a large average server body, notify me. I kinda can't wait to try it out too.

I don't even care about the rest of the stuff! Would love to download the best map I've seen. :)
I'm flattered! Thank you, I will probably put a download out once the design is complete. The functional download will probably come a bit later.

I have one or two ideas, you could make tanks ( FT-17, A7V )  planes crashed in the No man's land for cover or hiding place also a railway with a train to supply the front of shells, troops and otther stuff also how about a Fort ? It could make a good strategic point to capture. :D
I like the ideas quite a bit. Tanks have a high probability for being included in this map Mark IV's for the Germans and Renaults for the French (or any combination of tanks from the era). I also might include a railway supply line for the Central powers; It would be a nice addition.
The fort I want to use in a separate idea I have had. Have you heard of Verdun and the 9 forts surrounding the city?
I want to build a map for the battle of fort Douaumont. It was the largest fort protecting Verdun and supposedly "impenetrable". However, because the fort had not been the center of major fighting, it had been gutted of its weaponry and was manned by your Old Man's Army. So, this fort was under-gunned and under-manned. The Germans, for many reasons including this one, shelled Verdun and its surrounding forts with over 1,200 guns, thus beginning the start of a battle that would last for more than 10 months.

So yeah, that will be my summer project - The Battle of Fort Douaumont

but back to your points, thank you for the input and I will see what I can do to incorporate some of these ideas!

Yes i know, I was just thinking about it for the Fort idea  :) and I can't wait to see what you are going to do with Fort Douaumont  and this project too :P

Also you're welcome man !

I may be able to help out in terms of command blocks. You can check out my work on my PMC account page or reach out to me via Skype.
Your works seems good. If you are willing to provide help I shant deny it, can I contact you later when the project is closer to completion?

Anything's fine with me. Spring breaks coming up (for me at least; I don't know about anyone else), so I should have some time.
This is actually really cool! You should add NPC soldiers.
Thanks for the compliment!
What I actually invision happening is having a server host this map so that live players can engage in all out CTF warfare. I am currently researching command block methods for programming the map to be interactive. This way players can use Field mortars, heavy artillery, tanks, choose classes, etc.
(If you know anyone who is superb with redstone, all help is appreciated!)

Weren't there also planes flying above for recon?
In some battles yes, and I would like to put airplanes into this battle. The only setback would be their funtion in a vanilla PVP setting. If by some form of magic I could get the planes to move and shoot and drop bombs at the commands of a player, I would totally include them. Otherwise, once this map is downloadable, players can use airplane mods, vehicle mods, and gun mods as much as they want too. I might include observation balloons since they were tethered to the ground.

the british/french trenches should be shallow (when i was walking in one it came to my shoulder and i'm 5'10 like steve) but most german trenches were twice as deep as british /french)
First: Thank you very much for this kind of knowledge, I appreciate any help from the community!

Second: I might only raise the french/british support and reserve trenches due to how intricate the front-line has become. To raise the front would be only a slight bit tedious and very time consuming.

Third: If you have any other WWI knowledge that could make this map more realistic, I wouldn't mind hearing it.

Its really cool that you were able to visit the western front. Someday I would like to be able to travel to Europe and see Fort Douaumont, the Marne, and maybe Passchendaele.

Let me know if you need photos of the villages or field hospitals as i'm sure i can send you them
I haven't even considered field hospitals... you are a genius!
I am curious, how would one include the hospitals a WWI gameplay? Also which line were they located on?
Nice map! I think It's time for someone to make WW1 Flan's mod pack.
Thank you! And I think that I would have to agree with you!

looks like an awesome project!
Are you going to put webs in for no mans land and tnt mines or is this just going to be like a "look at" map and not one for PVP?

I can promise you that No-Man's land will look tons better in the near future!

There shall be plenty o' barbed wire and shell craters to be had. Instead of mines I might build tanks in No-Man's land. The guns on the tanks would be able to be operated by certain classes in a PVP match (I intend to see this map used for both battle and decor).
This is one of the reasons why I need to find a server that has a good enough modding team to program/code a gameplay that would allow players to choose a team, choose a class (Officer, Infantry, Tankman, machine gunner, etc), and engage in an all out multi-flag CTF battle. Eventually the team who has captured the most full trench lines (Front line, Support line, Reserve line, Artillery line) wins.

I would love to do this all myself, but I can't write very effective codes, mod, or host a large server. I need help lol.

I hope this answers your question!
