The Second Continental Regiment of Light Dragoons, sometimes known as Sheldon's Dragoons or Sheldon's Horse, were a regiment of cavalry serving in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Under the command of Colonel Elisha Sheldon, the unit was one of the first cavalry regiments mustered under the Continental Army in 1776. In addition to serving distinguishably in the war, it had a unique part in the Revolution's more secret history. One of its officers, Major Benjamin Tallmadge, was the head of America's first spy ring under General Washington, popularized by the hit AMC Drama, TURN. As a result, Tallmadge had his own special detachment in the dragoons for more specialized missions involving intelligence which he occasionally used in swift surprise attacks on the enemy.
