Brightspark was a being from another plane of existence, drawn into the present day by a freak wormhole in San Francisco. After 2 years in containment by a secret organisation, he was deemed safe to be allowed into the world.

Upon release, he ran into the rather comical supervillain, Master Bank-Breaker and defeated him. His actions kickstarted a new age of heroes with himself at the centre, forming the Challengers of Earth to protect the world from evil.
